May-June-2013-Events-at-Scottsdale-Center-for-the-Performing-Arts-20010101

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts has announced its May-June 2013 events, including Phantom Limb Company: 69°S, McCoy Tyner Quartet with Special Guest Joe Lovano, Talk Cinema, Chris Botti, and Love, Loss and What I Wore.

For more details about the performances, scroll below!

Phantom Limb Company: 69°S.
Saturday, May 4, 2013, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Virginia G. Piper Theater
Tickets: $29, $39, $49

A remarkable collaboration between The Phantom Limb Company and The Kronos Quartet, 69°S. is a series of dynamic tableaux vivants inspired by Sir Ernest Shackleton's harrowing 1914 Trans-Antarctic Expedition, which ultimately became a triumph of spirit, deep camaraderie and pioneering leadership. This narrative installation-in-motion melds theatrical performance, puppetry, photography and film with original music and an unconventional acoustic palette to create a stunning - and unprecedented - artistic and emotional journey.

69°S. Credits: Created by Phantom Limb; Directed by Sophie Hunter; Conceived in collaboration with David Harrington/Kronos Quartet; Video Design by Lauren Petty and Shaun Irons; Choreography by Andrea Miller; Produced by ArKtype/Thomas O. Kriegsmann; Music Composed by Erik Sanko; Set Designed by Jessica Grindstaff; Marionettes by Erik Sanko; Costume Design by threeASFOUR; Developed with Tony Taccone; Produced in Association with Beth Morrison Projects.

McCoy Tyner Quartet with
Special Guest Joe Lovano
Saturday, May 4, 2013, 7:30 p.m.
Outdoors at Scottsdale Civic Center Amphitheater
Tickets: $39 (Lawn), $59 (Chair)

A five-time Grammy Award winner and NEA Jazz Master, pianist McCoy Tyner has shaped modern jazz for more than half a century. His blues-based piano style, replete with sophisticated chords and an explosively percussive left hand, has transcended conventional styles to become one of the most identifiable sounds in improvised music. He and his quartet welcome Grammy-winning saxophonist Joe Lovano, hailed by The New York Times as "one of the greatest musicians in jazz history," for a brilliant night of jazz under the stars.

Talk Cinema
Tuesday, May 7, 2013, 7 p.m.
Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Virginia G. Piper Theater
General Admission: $19

Talk Cinema showcases sneak previews of award-winning independent and foreign films before their theatrical release. Always a surprise, the films are personally selected from leading festivals by film critic Harlan Jacobson. The movie could be a quirky indie comedy, a provocative documentary or the next breakout hit. Screenings are introduced and followed by moderated conversations hosted by distinguished guest speakers.

Chris Botti
Friday, May 10, 2013, 7:30 p.m.
Outdoors in Scottsdale Civic Center Amphitheater
Tickets: $39 (Lawn), $59 (Chair)

With his uniquely expressive sound and soaring musical imagination, trumpeter Chris Botti has thoroughly established himself as one of the most innovative figures of the contemporary music world. Now a major artist in his own right, performing worldwide, selling more than three million albums, he has found a form of creative expression that begins in jazz and expands beyond the limits of any single genre. Botti earned the 2013 Grammy Award for "Best Pop Instrumental Album" for his latest release, Impressions.

Proving that a great show is always in fashion, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, with its starry rotating cast and compulsively entertaining subject matter, has become an international hit. This intimate collection of stories by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron is based on the best seller by Ilene Beckerman, as well as on the recollections of the Ephrons' friends. Like the popular book, the show uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often poignant stories that all women can relate to, creating one of the most enduring theater experiences. The Scottsdale cast includes actress Dawn Wells (Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island). Other cast members to be announced.
