One of the most brilliant and original composers in history, Claude Debussy was born 150 years ago this fall. In celebration, Steinway Artist Walter Cosand performs an evening of Debussy’s piano music, including some of his most familiar pieces, as well as several exquisite but very seldom played works.

By combining folk, country, acoustic, rock and blues, Mary Chapin Carpenter defies the conventional boundaries of the music industry. A five-time Grammy Award winner, she has always professed a love for all kinds of music, and those influences come together in songs that speak to the most personal of life’s details as well as to the most universal. Carpenter’s newest album, Ashes and Roses, was released in June on Zoë/Rounder Records.

This concert is a rare opportunity to hear some of the most beautiful European Romantic music performed by double bass and piano, including works by Chopin, Elgar, Rachmaninoff and others. The double bass has been growing in popularity as a solo instrument because of its gorgeous tone, wide range of colors and endless virtuosic possibilities.
