Known as “The Sun of Latin Music,” pianist Eddie Palmieri has a musical career that spans more than 50 years as a bandleader of salsa and Latin jazz orchestras. His charismatic power and bold innovative drive have earned him nine Grammy Awards. Palmieri and his toe-tapping orchestra are joined by vocalist Herman Olivera, one of the great soneros, for a soul-shaking night of fiery, red-hot salsa.

An action-packed celebration of Latin music, dance, food and more, La Gran Fiesta takes audiences on a journey from the rich artistry of neighboring Mexico to the cultural vibrancy of the Caribbean and South America. This free community festival features performances by Arizona’s top Latin bands, activities for children and families and an arts-and-crafts Mercado. Latin-inspired food and drinks are available for purchase. Highlights of the event include Miami-based band Tiempo Libre performing a free concert at 7 p.m.

The band’s members were classically trained in Cuba’s premier conservatories and are the heirs to their native country’s rich musical traditions. Now a worldwide sensation with three Grammy nominations, Tiempo Libre is celebrated for its incendiary, joyful performances of timba, an irresistible, dance-inducing mix of high-voltage Latin jazz, and the seductive rhythms of Cuban son.
